The fruit and veg co-op is run by 3 local volunteers who give their time to help people access this food at affordable prices. We purchase various fresh produce from a local wholesaler. This is then divided into separate fruit, salad, and vegetable bags to be distributed weekly at an affordable price. Each week we try to alternate what's in the bag so you have a variety from week to week. This depends on what produce is in season, availability, and cost of produce.
With food prices getting more costly, having fresh fruit and vegetable bags for £2.50 is quite a bargain, and the Food Co-op doesn't make any profit, but we pass on the discounts to our customers. This means that every food bag you buy has exactly what you pay for. If you are interested in placing an order for either of the three bag options (fruit, veg, salad), feel free to call the New Drop In Centre for more information.
Here is the process to place an order:
- First call the New Drop In Centre on (01792) 580905 or drop in to place order(s) by 12 o'clock on Tuesday.
- The produce is delivered fresh on Thursday mornings then packed into the appropriate bags.
- You can then collect your bag(s) between 11am - 4pm that day.
With the number of orders growing from its initial beginning, we are now expanding into other realms. We now accept healthy start vouchers as payment for a bag. If you order from us regularly and pay with your voucher, every fifth week you will be able to collect a pack without charge...FREE FOOD.
We also include nutritional information and recipes in each of our bags. We are currently looking into providing this service to schools and other local organisations.
